This training is dedicated for communities of colour, including multiracial and biracial individuals, in the hope of increasing accessibility to the model. This is also an opportunity for those who identify as a person of color, multiracial and biracial to be a part of a non-minority training environment.
The essence of EFFT is to afford caregivers a role in supporting their loved one’s well-being, treatment and/or recovery. The clinician’s role is to work with parents and caregivers, offering them skills and support to increase their involvement in three domains including: 1. behavior coaching, 2. emotion coaching and in the use of 3. therapeutic apologies, if relevant. A fourth module involves supporting caregivers to identify, understand, and transform “emotion blocks” that can lead to difficulties with implementation. A parallel module is introduced to identify and transform clinician blocks affecting belief in the system, use of interventions, etc.
Jennifer Danby and Dr. Tajinder Uppal Dhariwal will introduce EFFT theory and skills, inviting participants to learn the core techniques of the model using didactic and experiential learning. Many of the skills can be integrated into other treatment models. Videos will also be included for demonstration purposes.
No prior training required and background/experience in family therapy is not necessary.
Participation can be active or passive. Participants with various training backgrounds are welcome. This training meets criteria towards certification through the International Institute for EFFT. Videos will be included and therefore this training will not be recorded.
